Registration of travel business (For a foreign company)

When a foreigner starts business which needs approval on getting a business manage visa, he/she needs to get each approval before applying for a business manager visa.

Registration of travel business is one of them mentioned above. If a foreigner wants to start travel business, 【registration of travel business】 is necessary. Without registration, a foreigner must be punished. In the first place, it is impossible to get a business manager visa without registration. 

Registration of travel business is necessary to do travel business such as planning a tour or arranging plane tickets. Many of foreign companies register themselves as #3 of travel business or travel agency.

The scope of service on #1

A travel business with #1 can provide all overseas and domestic travel services such as recruitment type planned travel, received order type planned travel, arranged travel, agent sales based on entrustment contract.

The scope of service on #2

A travel business with #2 can provide overseas and domestic travel services except for overseas recruitment type planned travel.

The scope of service on #3

A travel business with #3 can provide overseas and domestic travel services such as received order type planned travel, arranged travel, and agent sales based on entrustment contract, but can’t provide overseas recruitment type planned travel. Domestic recruitment type planned travel can be provided under the set condition. 

Travel agency

It is possible to contract with a travel business trader through travel agency; therefore, the scope of service is different depending on content of entrustment contract with a travel business trader which a travel agency belongs to.

For registration of travel business, 70,000,000 yen on #1, 11,000,000 yen on #2, or 3,000,000 yen on #3 is necessary as deposits as security for dealing. But it is possible to open for business with 1/5 amount of deposits mentioned above by being a member of an association of travel agents. There are two associations of travel agents prescribed by travel agency act, 【Japan Association of Travel Agents (JATA)】 and 【All Nippon Travel Agents Association (ANTA)】. It doesn’t matter either one to choose, but both of them have admission fee and annual fee.

※It is necessary to make application forms and take an examination by an association to be a member of it.
